Feast Or Indigestion In Animals

Eating food or indigestion in animals

Eating is one of the greatest pleasures a human being can enjoy. There are so many dishes and foods that we can eat something new every day. To prevent this pleasure from turning into a nightmare, you should always eat in moderation. Having good eating habits is very important to fully enjoy food. What has just been said applies to men, but also to animals. For this reason today we want to talk to you about eating and indigestion in animals.

Indigestion and eating in animals

In general, an animal has indigestion due to excessive ingestion of food or due to a poor digestive process. It can also happen that a certain type of food is not good for him.

This is not a trivial matter, in fact, indigestion can cause annoying and painful gastric problems.

Animals must always eat in the right quantities

The main enemy of the digestive system of animals is an inadequate diet. Always make sure that your pet eats correctly and in the right proportions.

Not only food is important, but the quantities of food must also be adequate. You should know that most veterinary emergencies are linked to digestive diseases.

The main symptoms of indigestion

The first symptom you will notice in case of indigestion is that the animal vomits immediately after eating. You will notice that he is more sluggish and apathetic than usual.

Furthermore, digestive problems are generally accompanied by stomach pains and upset. Your pet is therefore likely to adopt postures that help relieve pain.

What to do in case of indigestion

  • If you suspect that there is ongoing indigestion, you must leave the animal on an empty stomach for 12 hours.
  • When the first emetic episodes occur, you need not be alarmed! You should know that the animal will probably vomit until the stomach is completely empty. Fasting must begin from the moment the retching disappears.
  • As soon as the necessary time has elapsed, you can start giving your pet small doses of food. Gradually you will increase the rations until you reach the normal ration, usually it takes a couple of days.
  • If the same problems do not recur, the problem has been resolved.
  • It is vital that the animal does not become dehydrated. Dehydration could be a consequence of vomiting and diarrhea. However, you must make sure that the animal does not drink too much water suddenly, otherwise it would vomit again.
  • Give him some water frequently and make sure he drinks it.
  • If symptoms persist after two or three days, you should go to the vet. The problem could worsen and lead to pancreatitis, stomach twist, or ulcer. You have to run for cover as soon as possible.
  • The presence of blood in stool or vomit is alarming. Again, you should see your vet as soon as possible.

How to prevent these problems from occurring

1. Balanced diet. As we have repeated several times, animals must ingest the amount of food appropriate to their age and their state of health. If in doubt, ask your veterinarian for advice.

2. Prevent the animal from eating quickly.  One of the reasons for indigestion and feasting is anxiety in eating. You have to make sure this doesn’t happen.

3. No leftovers. Giving an animal the foods prepared for humans is risky, not all foods are good and above all it is impossible to control calories, sugars, etc. It is best for your pet to only eat its food.

4. No exercise. You don’t have to exercise your pet right after eating. If possible, after eating, wait about 30 minutes before starting any physical activity.

5. Special foods. If you notice that your pet is particularly prone to indigestion, despite having followed all the advice we have given you, it is best that you contact your veterinarian. Your dog probably needs to be fed a special diet because he is intolerant to some food.

At this point, you not only know what to do in case of ingestion, but also how to prevent it. Put into practice what we have suggested.
