Although the news has been circulating on the Internet in recent days, the incident happened in the vicinity of Phoenix, the capital of the state of Arizona, in the southwest of the United States, during the winter of 2010. Victoria, a three-year-old girl, was lost in a wood near her home with her dog for approximately 15 hours. It is thanks to the presence of her dog that the little girl was able to defy the low night temperatures, having spent the night curled up on each other, transmitting heat.

Recovery teams found them the next morning just under a kilometer from their home. As they approached, the dog – an Australian Cattle Dog – began barking while remaining on the defensive, until he realized it was aid. Eventually, the animal ran to the rescue helicopter and boarded it without anyone pointing it out, to continue to keep the little girl company as she was taken to the Phoenix Children’s Hospital, where it was found that she was out of harm’s way.

Rescuers reported that the dog saved the girl’s life, as without her presence Victoria would not have withstood the low temperatures typical of the area.

This Australian Cattle Dog has managed to show off the best characteristics of his breed: a great instinct of fidelity and protection, especially towards children. “The animal regarded Victoria as a member of her pack, and her responsibility was to protect her,” the experts reported.

A similar case is that of Eva Luna, five years old. In August 2009, the little girl left her home in Valparaíso, Chile, walking into a pine and eucalyptus forest with four of her dogs, and was unable to find her way home.

During the research, anxiety and tension were skyrocketing as three of the dogs returned home alone.

Pelé, on the other hand, the fourth dog, remained next to the child to give her warmth and prevent her from going into hypothermia, until the moment she was finally found.
