The Assembly for the Protection and Animal Welfare in Venezuela has put in place several measures to assess the living conditions of animals. This is in particular the well-known trade in animals that takes place on the streets of Caracas.

During some raids , many animals were located that did not even have the minimum age to be offered for sale,  while others had not received the right vaccines. Furthermore, the quantities of specimens crammed were too high and, consequently, their health conditions were very bad.

In this type of spaces, not only animals are sold, but also accessories, food and medicines.

The recovered animals were taken to a veterinary clinic where they will undergo all necessary treatments.

The age limit for the sale of dogs

In most cases, the minimum age for placing animals on the market is three months. In any case, we always try to make sure that the animals sold are in optimal health conditions.

It is always good to remember that one of the most severe forms of cruelty is the exploitation of dogs and cats of certain breeds, fueled by those who continue to buy animals of this type and encourage others to do so.

Various non-profit associations, such as the Association for the Defense of Animals (ADA) or AnimaNaturalis International, have often taken the opportunity to launch appeals to  denounce the areas of the world where the illegal trade and sale of animals is taking place. .

It often happens that the animals marketed in these places present diseases due to the poor conditions in which they live. In addition, it has been discovered that various shops allow too many dogs and cats to live in cramped conditions, as well as provide them with poor nutrition.

Requirements for stores that sell pets

Also avoid those who do not provide you with the medical records or the dossier relating to the behavior of both.

Buy purebred animals

Before buying a purebred dog or cat, it is good to consult with your veterinarian regarding possible hereditary problems of the animal, and the possible possibility of determining them before purchase.

Serious and professional breeders will be able to equip you with the necessary tests to certify the true purity of the breed.

Review with the veterinarian

After purchasing a new pet, it will be necessary to make an appointment with the veterinarian, bringing with you all the information acquired regarding the health care to which the animal has been subjected. Prepare a list with all the questions you want to answer. It will also be useful to bring a stool sample with you, since in the case of parasites such as worms, while not unusual, adequate diagnosis and treatment will be necessary.

Puppies and cats will have to undergo a series of vaccines while they are young. Following the vaccine, they will have to undergo boosters every year, and each animal will be able to receive a personalized prevention program.

Another important measure is to castrate the animal as soon as the vet determines that the time has come.
