The Seventh Month Of The Puppy

The seventh month of the puppy

If you are about to adopt a dog, know that they too, like people, go through various stages of life. Each of these phases has different characteristics; this is why it is very important to know them and to know what they can learn, what you need to pay more attention to or what type of diet to feed them.

On this occasion we want to talk to you about the seventh month of the puppy, because it is precisely from this moment that his “adolescent puppy” phase begins. In reality this is also linked to the breed of the dog: if they are smaller in size they will begin this phase earlier, while if they are larger in size, they will probably arrive a few months later.

The seventh month of the puppy

This phase is crucial in your dog’s life. Up until the sixth month, you gave him basic education and trained him not to do what he shouldn’t. Now he is approaching his adult stage and must mature what he has already learned.

Teething

Between the fourth and seventh month of age, the period of teething begins , that is, the milk teeth fall out and the definitive ones emerge. As with children, it is a very annoying time, so be prepared because it will bite everything. It will be useful to get an object or a toy to bite, because it will end up biting your furniture and everything that comes within range.

The power supply

The seventh month is also the growth phase, you must consult your vet about the changes to be made to his diet. Remember to give the dog its recommended daily allowance and not to exceed it (but not even that it is low!). It is very important that he does exercise every day, you can play games with him, make him walk when you ride a bike or do some kind of sport together.

His behavior

As with all adolescents, his behavior can change as well. This is normal, but you must not give in to his blackmail; remember that you are the leader and therefore must obey. He is no longer a puppy, you have to start treating him like an adult. If you have to blame him for something he did, don’t forget to do it right after; if you wait a few hours, he won’t understand anything.

Physical changes

If your dog is a male, he will begin to lift his paw to urinate. This gesture is instinctive and perhaps the first time he does it will seem funny to you, since he himself will be surprised. In this phase it may also happen that it begins to change its coat, to lose the typical downy one of puppies and it will acquire a new coat with permanent characteristics.

Stages of life

puppy-3

We have just seen the seventh month of our puppy, let’s briefly review the various stages of the dog’s life.

Infant phase

It goes from birth to 2 months of life. It is very important that he is still with his canine family, mother and siblings. The puppy feeds only on mother’s milk and it is the mother who teaches him to behave like a dog: this is why it is so important not to separate them.

Puppy or infant stage

From 2 months to about 6 months your dog enters the infant stage. It is the moment when he wants to know everything and explore and the way to do it is to bite into everything. This stage is very important because it is the right time to start educating him and make him understand if he is behaving badly.

Stage of adolescence

It covers the period ranging from 7 months to approximately 18 months. As for humans, for dogs it is a very important stage where you have to strengthen education very well and pay special attention to his health.

Adult stage

This stage begins around 18 months of age. You have an adult and mature dog in your home . However, the maturity of a dog depends a lot on the breed they belong to and on the education you have imparted to them.

Old age

It depends on the dog and the breed, but more or less they enter this phase around 5 or 6 years of age. What you can now do for your dog is to ensure a good quality of life, which is as pleasant as possible. It is precisely from this stage that he will need you, much more than when he was a puppy.
