The Famous Dog Dug From The Cartoon “Up” Becomes Real

The famous dog Dug from the cartoon "Up" becomes real

The well-known dog Dug who spoke in the cartoon “Up” appeared in real life  surprising children and adults in a US park.

The cartoon “Up” was produced by Disney Pixar in 2009 and won an Oscar. This story has stolen the hearts of millions of people around the world. In it we know the adventures of an old man who refuses to sell his house and who ends up reaching the place where he had always dreamed of going with his wife.

The protagonism of the dog Dug

For dog lovers, but also cinema lovers, we discover the friendship between Mr. Fredricksen, a grumpy old man who does not accept his new life without his wife, and Russell, the intrepid ‘boy scout’ who only tries to make good to others. Afterwards, Dug appears, who will accompany both of them on their journey and who will have the opportunity to prove his courage and loyalty.

One of the most interesting aspects of the cartoon is that the Dug dog is equipped with a collar that allows him to talk and relate to people.  Many owners would love to have such an object at their disposal. That way, they could interact much better with their pets.

There is no doubt that  Dug was one of the characters who made the audience fall in love the most.

Strongly naive and with touches of humor, he not only managed to keep the protagonists of the story with him, but he also conveyed to viewers the desire to have a Golden Retriever. And, of course, he obviously spoke.

Dug becomes real

The magic came true last year. Last October, in fact,  Disney released a video in which a beautiful dog of the same breed as Dug surprised adults, young people and children who were in a US park.

However, the surprises don’t end there. The person speaking from the collar of the famous dog was none other than Bob Peterson, the co-director of Up and the voice actor of Dug in the original version.

What phrases could passers-by hear? Some were “I’m a good dog”, “Are you giving me a good scratch here?”, “Ball!”, “I have to find a branch”, “Hello little human”. All these words came from the dog’s collar.

A movie character

For all the people who saw the cartoon “Up”, Dug was one of the most successful characters among the general public. This was possible thanks to her innocence and her sympathy.

Also new is that the YouTube channel Oh my Disney  has created a video where a real dog plays Dug while walking in a park, including the collar.

It is very curious to observe the reaction of the people in the park, children and adults. Every day a child has the opportunity to play a little with Dug in flesh and blood.

These daily scenes correspond to the first episode of a project of a new series called “Disney IRL” (Disney in real life). The following episodes will see other characters of the famous manufacturer as protagonists. Different situations will be dealt with in real life.

Collection success

It must be remembered that when “Up” was released in theaters, it received very positive reviews, to the point of being recognized as the best film of the year in 2009. In addition, it managed to gross over 730 million dollars worldwide.

It is also the third most successful Disney Pixar cartoon, surpassed only by others such as “Finding Nemo”, 2003, and “Toy Story 3”, 2010.

As for the other awards, in addition to having won two Oscars, this is the second cartoon to have received a nomination for best film after “Beauty and the Beast” in 1991.

Other accolades include Golden Globes in the Best Animated Film and Best Score category.

The choice of the dog’s name and its dubbing

When it comes to choosing the dog’s name, Dug, the creators say it took a lot of time and effort. Very careful work is done in order to create the Pixar cartoon characters. However, the name Dug was proposed from the beginning, even if it was not chosen immediately.

Bob Peterson, who took charge of the voice acting of the dog Dug in the original version, declares that he is the funniest character he has worked with so far. And to think that he has given his voice to several protagonists of animated films, such as “Monsters & Co”, “Finding Nemo” and “Cars”.
